Strengthening Families Program

Lutheran Services Carolinas is launching a brand new program in Charleston County!  In partnership with the Children’s Trust of SC, LSC will be offering Strengthening Families – a 14-week program designed to build communications and bonding skills between parents and their elementary school-age children. The Strengthening Families Program (SFP) helps families come together and learn parallel lessons.  Parents focus on effective parenting and positive discipline techniques while children and youth learn skills needed for success in life. It all starts with a family dinner. The sessions typically last 2½ hours and include parents and children meeting separately to work with group leaders before coming together for shared activities to finish. The initial series of sessions began March 5th.  Local congregations are getting involved in this ministry in a number of ways, including:  helping to serve the family meal; playing games with older siblings during the sessions; providing desserts for the meals; and donating gift baskets for the weekly activity themes.
